Accounting Expert at Mercor

Accounting Expert | $60–$80/hr | Worldwide Remote

Mercor is partnering with leading AI research labs to bring on experienced accounting professionals who will help improve AI systems' understanding of financial reporting, tax compliance, audit procedures, and enterprise accounting workflows. This is a flexible, project-based opportunity with potential for ongoing engagement based on performance and project needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and evaluate AI-generated outputs related to journal entries, financial statement preparation, tax calculations, audit procedures, and accounting standards interpretation
• Create realistic scenarios based on accounting workflows — including month-end close, revenue recognition analysis, tax provision computation, internal control testing, and audit workpapers
• Annotate, label, and validate data across accounting use cases such as lease accounting under ASC 842, consolidation, intercompany eliminations, and SOX compliance
• Provide structured feedback on AI accuracy across US GAAP, IFRS, IRC, PCAOB standards, and professional ethics
• Collaborate asynchronously with research teams to refine evaluation frameworks for accounting-domain AI

Ideal Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional experience at a public accounting firm (Big 4, national, regional, or local), corporate accounting department, or government/nonprofit finance function
• Background in one or more of the following areas:
  • External audit (financial statement, integrated, or compliance audits)
  • Tax (corporate, individual, partnership, state & local, or international)
  • Financial reporting and controllership
  • Internal audit and SOX compliance
  • Forensic accounting, valuation, or advisory services
• CPA license or active CPA exam progress strongly preferred
• Strong analytical thinking with the ability to translate complex accounting workflows into structured evaluation tasks
• Clear written communication skills and exceptional attention to detail

Compensation

This role begins at an effective hourly rate of $60–$80/hr and is expected to transition to a throughput-based compensation model rewarding quality and volume of work completed.
