AI Domain Expert (Computer Science) | PhD Required | Fully Remote | Flexible Hours

Turing is seeking completed PhDs in Computer Science to help fine-tune and evaluate large language models for leading AI research labs. This is a fully remote contract role with flexible hours — no prior AI experience required.

About Turing

Based in San Francisco, Turing is the world's leading research accelerator for frontier AI labs and a trusted partner for global enterprises deploying advanced AI systems. Turing supports frontier research through high-quality data, advanced training pipelines, and top-tier AI researchers specializing in coding, reasoning, STEM, multilinguality, multimodality, and agents.

Role Overview

As an AI Domain Expert, you will leverage your deep Computer Science expertise to help improve large language models (such as ChatGPT). You will design challenging problems, evaluate AI-generated solutions, and collaborate with researchers to build more rigorous benchmarks — all without writing code.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design advanced, conceptual computer science problems to assess AI performance across areas such as systems design, algorithms, and cybersecurity.
  • Develop clear, step-by-step solutions with rigorous logical reasoning.
  • Evaluate AI outputs for accuracy, depth, and quality of reasoning.
  • Collaborate with research teams to refine benchmarks spanning undergraduate to PhD-level computer science topics.

Requirements

  • Completed PhD in Computer Science or a closely related field (in-progress PhDs are not eligible).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills across advanced computer science domains.
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly in writing and provide structured, actionable feedback.
  • No prior AI or machine learning experience necessary.

Engagement Details

  • Commitment: Minimum 40 hours per week.
  • Type: Contractor/Freelancer (no medical benefits or paid leave).
  • Time Zone: Some overlap with UTC-8:00 (Pacific Time) required — approximately 2–5 hours per day.

Why Work With Turing?

  • Competitive compensation based on experience and expertise.
  • Fully remote with flexible scheduling.
  • Contribute to meaningful, cutting-edge AI research.
  • Potential for contract extension based on performance and project needs.
