AI/ML Engineer – Bioinformatics | Remote | 30–40 hrs/week | Contractor

Turing is looking for a highly motivated AI/ML Engineer with a strong Bioinformatics background to develop and deploy machine learning models for biological and healthcare data. You'll work at the intersection of computational biology, genomics, and artificial intelligence to build scalable solutions that accelerate biological discovery and translational research.

Key Responsibilities

Machine Learning & AI Development

  • Design, develop, and deploy ML/DL models for biological datasets including genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and multi-omics data.
  • Apply deep learning techniques — CNNs, RNNs, Transformers, and GNNs — to biological sequence and structural data.
  • Build predictive models for variant classification, drug discovery, disease risk prediction, and biomarker identification.
  • Optimize models for performance, scalability, and reproducibility.

Bioinformatics & Data Processing

  • Process and analyze high-throughput sequencing data (NGS, RNA-seq, WGS/WES).
  • Develop robust data pipelines for preprocessing, normalization, feature engineering, and annotation.
  • Work with biological databases such as NCBI, Ensembl, UniProt, TCGA, and GEO.
  • Implement statistical analyses and validation frameworks for biological experiments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with genomic variant analysis pipelines (GATK, SAMtools, BCFtools).
  • Background in structural biology or protein modeling.
  • Experience in drug discovery or computational chemistry.
  • Familiarity with multi-omics integration and graph-based models for biological networks.
  • Experience applying LLMs to biomedical text mining.
  • Publications in computational biology or AI-driven biomedical research.
  • Experience working in regulated environments (HIPAA, GxP).

Engagement Details

  • Type: Contractor (Freelance)
  • Commitment: Minimum 30 hrs/week (options: 30 or 40 hrs/week), with at least 4 hours of daily overlap with PST.
  • Environment: Fully remote

Why Work with Turing?

  • Work remotely in a flexible, fully distributed environment.
  • Collaborate on cutting-edge AI projects with leading LLM companies.
  • Potential for contract extension based on performance and project needs.
