AI Training Specialist – Physics | Contractor | Remote (India, Bangladesh, Egypt, Kenya, Mexico, Ghana, Nigeria, Turkey)
Turing is seeking a highly qualified AI Training Specialist in Physics to design rigorous, graduate-level physics problems used to train and evaluate frontier AI language models. This is a fully remote contractor role requiring 40 hours per week with 4-hour overlap with PST.
About Turing
Based in San Francisco, Turing is the world's leading research accelerator for frontier AI labs and a trusted partner for global enterprises deploying advanced AI systems. Turing accelerates frontier research through high-quality data, advanced training pipelines, and top-tier AI researchers specializing in coding, reasoning, STEM, multilinguality, multimodality, and agents.
Role Overview
In this role, you will design upper-undergraduate and graduate-level physics problems that are solvable by humans yet challenging enough to expose failure modes in state-of-the-art language models. Your work directly shapes how frontier AI systems learn and reason about complex scientific concepts.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and curate upper-undergraduate and graduate-level physics problems with fully worked, step-by-step solutions.
- Create model-breaking tasks that resemble top university coursework but consistently challenge frontier AI models.
- Customize problem sets to strict client specifications (SI units, LaTeX formatting, explicit constants, closed-form answers).
- Convert multi-part or image-based textbook/exam questions into single, self-contained, text-only problems with one definitive answer.
- Write clear, rigorous solution processes and verify consistency across question, reasoning, final answer, and units.
- Evaluate model outputs, diagnose failure modes, and iteratively refine problems to balance difficulty and solvability.
- Review and quality-check physics problems created by others, correcting issues in clarity, correctness, and formatting.
- Collaborate with trainers, reviewers, and project managers to maintain consistent quality at scale.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree or PhD in Physics or a closely related field.
- Strong background in upper-undergraduate physics or beyond, including:
- Classical Mechanics
- Electromagnetism
- Thermodynamics & Statistical Physics
- Quantum Mechanics
- Optics and Modern Physics
- Fluent English with the ability to write precise, unambiguous scientific text.
- Strong LaTeX proficiency for mathematical derivations and formatting.
- Experience with university teaching, grading, exam design, or analytical research.
- Excellent attention to detail in units, constants, symbols, and notation.
- Ability to perform multi-step derivations, numerical calculations, and physical plausibility checks.
- Familiarity with modern AI/LLM concepts such as SFT, RLHF, and model evaluation.
Nice-to-Have
- Prior experience creating content for AI training or standardized testing.
- Experience designing multiple-choice questions with strong, model-confusing distractors.
Contract Details
- Commitment: 40 hours/week with 4-hour PST overlap required
- Engagement Type: Contractor assignment (no medical/paid leave)
