Join a pioneering team driving innovation in API technology. As an API Design Engineer at Mercor, you'll design, document, and validate APIs to ensure seamless integration and robust functionality. Your expertise in crafting clear API specifications and comprehensive documentation will play a critical role in bridging product and engineering teams.
Assessment: A short 15-minute assessment will be required as part of the application process. Candidates selected for the role will be notified within two days after completing the assessment.
Start Date: Tentatively scheduled for the week of March 29th, 2025.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from a top-tier university.
Strong expertise in RESTful API design principles and best practices.
Proficient with API documentation tools such as Swagger, Postman, or Redoc.
Experienced in writing detailed API test cases and familiar with testing tools (e.g., Postman, Jest, Cypress).
Knowledge of API authentication methods (OAuth, JWT, API keys).
Basic coding skills in Python, JavaScript, or other scripting languages.
Exceptional attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly document complex technical concepts.
Develop comprehensive Product Requirement Documents (PRDs) for API features and enhancements.
Clearly define API endpoints, request/response structures, authentication methods, and error handling strategies.
Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure API designs meet product goals and user requirements.
Create and maintain accurate, user-friendly API documentation.
Develop and execute test cases to validate API functionality, performance, and security.
Coordinate closely with QA teams to ensure robust API testing and address issues or edge cases effectively.
Optimize API designs for maximum performance, scalability, and security.
Flexible workload: 10–20 hours per week initially, with the potential to scale up to 40 hours.
Fully remote and asynchronous—work according to your schedule.
Minimum engagement: 1–2 months, with opportunities for extension.
Rate: $75–$150/hour, dependent on experience.
Weekly payments via Stripe Connect (Contractor).
Pay range applicable to candidates located in the U.S., UK, and Canada. Compensation outside these regions may vary.
