Mercor is seeking a knowledgeable Art Theory Expert to author, review, and annotate technical tasks used to evaluate AI model performance on art history and theory problems. This is a flexible, part-time remote role ideal for academics, curators, or researchers with a strong foundation in art history.
What You'll Do
- Produce original problem sets grounded in artworks, compositional analyses, and historical imagery
- Write clear, well-reasoned reference solutions to art history and theory tasks
- Review and annotate tasks using structured quality checks to ensure accuracy and rigor
- Evaluate AI model outputs against established art historical standards
Who We're Looking For
- PhD in Art History or Art Theory, or an MA with 3+ years of teaching, curatorial, or research experience, or a BA with 5+ years of relevant applied experience
- Working fluency in at least two of: art history periods, critical theory, visual analysis, curatorial practice, or conservation
- Comfortable reading and interpreting artworks, compositional analyses, and historical imagery
- Strong technical writing skills with the ability to articulate reasoning clearly and step-by-step
Compensation & Commitment
- Starting rate: $67/hr, with advancement opportunities based on task quality and throughput
- Schedule: ~20 hours/week, fully flexible
- Location: Fully remote
