Audio Annotation Trainer (Japanese) | Freelance | Worldwide Remote
Turing is seeking a detail-oriented Japanese-speaking professional to evaluate and validate AI-generated audio transcriptions as part of a cutting-edge multilingual speech dataset project. This is a fully remote, flexible freelance engagement ideal for linguists, transcriptionists, or language educators.
About Turing
Turing is one of the world's fastest-growing AI companies, partnering with leading AI labs to advance frontier model capabilities in reasoning, coding, multilinguality, and more. We build real-world AI systems that solve mission-critical challenges for global organizations.
Role Overview
You will help build an evaluation-grade dataset of transcribed, multi-channel audio recordings used to assess multilingual, multi-speaker AI systems. The work involves reviewing realistic conversations across diverse contexts, demographics, and conversational dynamics.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Review and evaluate AI-generated transcriptions and diarization outputs against strict low Word Error Rate (WER) targets.
- Validate that transcripts accurately capture spontaneous, unnormalized speech — including overlaps, interruptions, false starts, and disfluencies.
- Assess the precision of turn-level and word-level timestamps and speaker identification in complex, overlapping dialogue.
- Read and validate JSON-formatted outputs to verify metadata tagging, diarization alignment, and timestamp logic.
- Identify transcription, segmentation, and alignment errors and determine whether AI output meets acceptance thresholds.
Requirements
- Fluent or native proficiency in Japanese.
- Exceptional ear for audio fidelity — able to detect background noise, channel bleed, or clipping.
- Meticulous attention to detail for word-level timestamps, diarization accuracy, and verbatim transcription standards.
- Ability to evaluate AI transcription quality and identify recognition, segmentation, and speaker attribution errors.
Preferred Qualifications
- Linguists / Phonetics Experts: Deep understanding of natural speech patterns and conversational dynamics in Japanese.
- Language Teachers: Native-level mastery with the ability to assess transcript fidelity without normalization or grammar correction.
- Professional Transcriptionists / ASR QA Specialists: Experience reviewing ASR outputs and validating turn-level and word-level timestamps against strict accuracy benchmarks.
Perks of Freelancing with Turing
- Fully remote, flexible work arrangement.
- Opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge AI and LLM projects.
- Potential for contract extension based on performance and project needs.
This is a flexible freelance agreement — not a full-time or part-time employment position.
