Bilingual Indonesian STEM Expert (PhD) — AI Safety | $19–23/hr | Remote (SE Asia Preferred)

Mercor is seeking PhD-level scientists with bilingual proficiency in English and Indonesian to help make advanced AI models safer and more accurate. You'll apply your deep scientific expertise to evaluate and improve how AI systems handle specialized technical content in Indonesian. No prior AI or machine learning experience is needed — full training is provided.

What You'll Do

• Write expert-level scientific prompts in Indonesian across chemistry, biology, and related fields.
• Evaluate and annotate AI model responses for scientific accuracy, helpfulness, and responsible handling of sensitive content.
• Apply structured guidelines to classify prompts and technical conversations.

What We're Looking For

• A completed or in-progress PhD in chemistry, biology, or a closely related discipline.
• Native or near-native fluency in Indonesian, with strong business-level written English.
• Deep familiarity with modern laboratory and/or computational techniques in your subfield.
• Sound judgment regarding scientific safety and responsible handling of dual-use information.

Nice to Have

• Based in Indonesia or the broader Southeast Asia region (preferred, not required).
• Background in radiochemistry, nuclear chemistry, energetic materials, or radiation physics.
• Specialized depth in areas such as organic/inorganic synthesis, molecular biology, microbiology, virology, or genetics.
• Coursework or research in chemical safety, biosafety, biosecurity, or hazardous materials handling.
• Experience reviewing, grading, or red-teaming technical content.

Start Date: Immediate. This is a part-time contractor role open to qualified applicants globally, with a preference for candidates based in Southeast Asia.
