Biology Specialist | Contractor | Worldwide Remote

Turing is seeking a Biology Specialist to support frontier AI research by developing high-quality reasoning datasets that evaluate and improve the capabilities of Large Language Models (LLMs). This is an 8-week remote contractor role requiring 4 hours of daily overlap with PST.

About Turing

Based in San Francisco, California, Turing is the world's leading research accelerator for frontier AI labs and a trusted partner for global enterprises deploying advanced AI systems. Turing helps accelerate frontier research with high-quality data, advanced training pipelines, and top-tier subject matter experts across STEM, coding, reasoning, and more.

Role Overview

As a Biology Specialist, you will design and develop advanced reasoning datasets that challenge and evaluate LLMs across biological concepts, systems, and problem-solving frameworks. You will create rigorous, self-contained tasks that require models to interpret definitions, perform analytical reasoning, and construct logically sound responses grounded in biological science.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Design novel biological reasoning tasks, including multi-step problems involving systems biology, genetics, cellular processes, and scientific methodology.
  • Author structured evaluation tasks with deterministic solutions, detailed reasoning traces, and comprehensive scoring rubrics.
  • Identify and resolve edge cases, ambiguities, and logical inconsistencies to ensure task robustness and reproducibility.
  • Collaborate with reviewers and AI/LLM teams to refine task definitions, evaluation criteria, and dataset quality standards.
  • Document rigorous definitions, reasoning processes, and biological frameworks in clear, precise written form.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in biology, life sciences, or a closely related scientific discipline.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in biology, data science, scientific research, or a related analytical field.
  • Proven ability to create structured reasoning problems that assess both conceptual understanding and procedural accuracy.
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to document complex scientific concepts clearly.
  • Preferred: Experience evaluating LLM reasoning performance or developing AI training and assessment datasets.

Perks of Freelancing With Turing

  • Fully remote work environment — work from anywhere in the world.
  • Opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge AI projects with leading LLM companies.
  • Potential for contract extension based on performance and project needs.

Engagement Details

  • Overlap Required: 4 hours with PST daily
  • Engagement Type: Contractor / Freelancer (no medical or paid leave benefits)
  • Contract Duration: 8 weeks
