CAD & Simulation Consultant | Contractor | Remote | Aerospace / Mechanical / Electrical Engineering

Turing is seeking experienced engineering professionals with deep CAD modeling and simulation expertise to help train and evaluate advanced AI models. This is a short-term contractor role (8 weeks, 20–40 hrs/week) ideal for senior engineers with 10+ years of hands-on design and simulation experience across aerospace, mechanical, or electrical domains.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop CAD models and perform simulation/analysis for aerospace, mechanical, and electrical components.
  • Validate designs using industry-standard tools such as CATIA, SolidWorks, ANSYS, and MATLAB.
  • Create realistic engineering problem statements, simulation models, calculations, schematics, and supporting technical assets.
  • Define inputs, assumptions, constraints, operating conditions, output metrics, and acceptance criteria.
  • Validate results through analytical checks and peer-review other engineers' submissions for technical correctness.
  • Translate technical requirements into simulation models and workflows.
  • Optimize designs based on simulation outcomes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams and document methodologies and results clearly.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in CAD engineering and simulation-focused roles.
  • Strong fundamentals in aerospace, mechanical, and/or electrical engineering.
  • Hands-on experience with modeling, simulation, or design projects.
  • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving and peer-review capabilities.
  • Proficiency in relevant domain tools:
    • Mechanical: FreeCAD, CalculiX, Gmsh, ParaView, Python, Cura/PrusaSlicer
    • Aerospace: OpenRocket, OpenVSP, XFoil, AVL, OpenFOAM/SU2, FreeCAD, Python
    • Electrical: KiCad, ngspice, Qucs-S, Python, Octave, FEMM, openEMS
  • Professional proficiency in one or more of: MATLAB/Simulink, LTspice, PSpice, ETAP, COMSOL, Ansys Maxwell, Altium Designer, AutoCAD Electrical, or EPLAN.
  • Python or MATLAB scripting experience for automation and analysis is preferred.
  • For Electrical Engineering candidates: strong fundamentals in circuit analysis, power systems, power electronics, control systems, or electronics design.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Prior experience at leading aerospace or engineering firms.

Engagement Details

  • Type: Contractor (no medical/paid leave benefits)
  • Duration: 8 weeks, expected start next week
  • Hours: 20–40 hrs/week with at least 4 hours PST overlap daily
