Civil Engineering Expert | $70–80/hr | Worldwide Remote

Mercor is seeking experienced civil engineering professionals to design evaluation tasks for AI systems operating in large-scale infrastructure and construction environments. This is a high-impact contract role where your real-world engineering expertise directly shapes how AI understands and performs complex civil engineering work.

Key Responsibilities

• Design realistic civil engineering scenarios covering large-scale infrastructure design cycles, multi-stakeholder permitting, regulatory review, and complex construction management processes.
• Build tasks spanning structural design and analysis, transportation and highway engineering, water resources, environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering, and construction project management.
• Develop scenarios involving industry-standard tools such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit, STAAD.Pro/ETABS, HEC-RAS, and enterprise project management platforms.
• Apply methodologies including structural load analysis, geotechnical site assessment, hydrology/hydraulic modeling, and AASHTO/ASCE design standards to produce reference design plans, engineering calculations, and technical narratives.
• Author evaluation rubrics that distinguish authentic senior-level civil engineering judgment from generic or textbook-level responses.

Ideal Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a civil engineer or engineering lead at a major firm, construction company, or public infrastructure agency (e.g., AECOM, Jacobs, Bechtel, state DOTs, or large municipal public works departments).
• Direct ownership of large-scale infrastructure designs, permitting processes, or construction project delivery.
• Strong fluency in civil engineering tools and methodologies, with practical understanding of regulatory approvals, NEPA environmental review, and public agency oversight.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred.
• Prior experience with rubric authorship, engineering training curriculum development, or technical documentation is a plus.
