Classical Jyotish Scholar (Parashara Tradition) | Contract | Worldwide Remote
Turing is seeking a traditionally trained Jyotishi with deep expertise in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra to create high-quality AI evaluation problems for frontier model training. This is a unique opportunity to apply classical Vedic astrology knowledge in the cutting-edge field of AI research.
About Turing
Based in San Francisco, Turing is the world's leading research accelerator for frontier AI labs and a trusted partner for global enterprises deploying advanced AI systems. Turing accelerates frontier research with high-quality data, advanced training pipelines, and top AI researchers specializing in coding, reasoning, STEM, multilinguality, multimodality, and agents.
Role Overview
You will design and develop rigorous evaluation problems that test an AI model's ability to interpret birth charts, identify classical Yogas, analyze Dasha-Bhukti periods, assess planetary strengths, and generate life-domain predictions across career, health, marriage, and finance. All problems must include step-by-step Chain-of-Thought (CoT) reasoning grounded in Shastra references.
Key Responsibilities
- Create 15–25 evaluation problems per month (Easy, Medium, and Hard difficulty) with full CoT reasoning and verified ground truth answers
- Design problems covering: Rashi chart interpretation, Bhava analysis, Yoga identification (from 300+ classical Yogas), Dasha-Bhukti-Antardasha prediction, planetary dignity assessment (Uccha, Neecha, Moolatrikona, Swakshetra), and aspect analysis
- Write detailed scoring rubrics with weighted criteria for each problem
- Cross-reference answers against classical texts — BPHS, Phaladeepika, Brihat Jataka, Saravali, Uttara Kalamrita — citing specific chapters and shlokas where applicable
- Peer-review problems created by other scholars for accuracy and Shastra fidelity
- Develop multimodal problems requiring interpretation of planetary data from Kundali chart images (North/South Indian formats)
Required Qualifications
- Jyotish Visharad (graduate) or Jyotish Acharya (post-graduate) from a recognized institution (ICAS, BHU, University of Calcutta, Panjab University, or equivalent)
- Minimum 5 years of active practice with demonstrable consultation experience
- Thorough knowledge of Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra (at least 50 chapters) and at least one additional classical text
- Fluency in the Vimshottari Dasha system, including manual computation of Dasha periods
- Strong understanding of Shadbala (sixfold strength) and Ashtakavarga systems
- Ability to write clearly and structurally in English, making problems comprehensible to non-astrologers for QA purposes
- Comfortable working with digital Kundali charts and structured data formats
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of Tajika (Varshaphal / annual horoscopy) system
- Experience with Prashna (horary) Jyotish
- Published articles, books, or educational content (including YouTube) on Jyotish
- Familiarity with Jyotish software such as Jagannatha Hora, Parashara Light, or Shri Jyoti Star
- Prior experience creating educational or examination content in Jyotish
This is a remote, contract-based role open to qualified scholars worldwide. If you are passionate about classical Jyotish and want to contribute to the future of AI, we'd love to hear from you.
