Cloud Computing Expert | $55–75/hr | Worldwide Remote
Mercor is partnering with leading AI labs on Project Atlas — an initiative to build realistic enterprise cloud environments used to train and evaluate frontier AI agents. We're looking for seasoned cloud professionals from major hyperscalers and Fortune 500 infrastructure teams to help design these environments and craft challenging, real-world tasks for state-of-the-art AI systems.
About the Role
You'll draw on your hands-on experience in cloud architecture, site reliability engineering, DevOps/DevSecOps, platform engineering, or cloud FinOps to recreate the digital workspaces and workflows of a modern cloud organization — then author multi-step tasks that genuinely challenge today's most advanced AI agents.
Key Responsibilities
- Build high-fidelity digital workspaces reflecting real cloud operations — including architecture docs, runbooks, RFCs, incident post-mortems, capacity plans, cost reports, and SRE review decks
- Design complex, multi-step tasks grounded in authentic workflows that require navigating multiple apps, files, and stakeholders
- Collaborate asynchronously with fellow cloud experts and AI research teams to refine task designs and evaluation criteria
- Contribute directly to frontier AI research and agent benchmarking initiatives
Ideal Qualifications
- 3+ years of full-time experience at a major hyperscaler (AWS, Azure, GCP, Oracle Cloud), cloud data platform (Snowflake, Databricks), or Fortune 500 platform/infrastructure team
- Background in one or more of: cloud architecture, site reliability engineering, platform/developer-experience engineering, DevOps/DevSecOps, CI/CD, Kubernetes operations, cloud security, compliance, or FinOps
- Day-to-day proficiency with tools such as HashiCorp Terraform/Pulumi, Splunk/Datadog, GitHub Actions/CircleCI, and Okta/Microsoft Entra ID
- Relevant certifications a plus: AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect, GCP Professional Cloud Architect, CKA/CKAD
- Strong analytical thinking and writing skills — able to translate complex cloud workflows into structured task specifications
Compensation
This engagement begins at an effective hourly rate of $55–$75/hr, with a planned transition to a throughput-based compensation model rewarding quality output.
