AfterQuery is looking for seasoned COBOL professionals to help shape the future of AI by designing and evaluating legacy systems programming challenges. In this fully remote, flexible contract role, your deep expertise will directly influence how AI models understand and navigate real-world mainframe development.

About the Role

You will create and refine COBOL-based programming scenarios used to train AI models, ensuring they can accurately interpret legacy programming principles, handle enterprise application challenges, and perform mainframe-level tasks with technical precision. Your work will help bridge the gap between time-tested COBOL practices and cutting-edge AI innovation.

Key Responsibilities

• Design complex COBOL programming challenges that reflect real-world mainframe and enterprise environments.
• Evaluate and refine AI-generated COBOL solutions for accuracy, correctness, and best practices.
• Ensure scenarios cover critical areas including batch processing, file handling, and database integration.
• Provide clear, detailed feedback to improve AI model performance on legacy systems tasks.

Required Qualifications

• Proven, hands-on experience in COBOL programming with a strong understanding of mainframe systems and enterprise applications.
• Deep knowledge of COBOL syntax, file processing, and database integration technologies such as DB2, IMS, and VSAM.
• Solid experience with batch processing workflows and system maintenance practices.
• Exceptional analytical skills with strong written and verbal communication abilities.
• High attention to detail and a commitment to technical accuracy.
