CS Domain Expert – AI Training | Contractor | Worldwide Remote

Turing is seeking experienced engineers with deep domain expertise to design challenging, simulation-based engineering problems used to train and evaluate frontier AI models. This is a high-impact contractor role where your technical knowledge directly shapes the next generation of AI reasoning capabilities.

About Turing

Based in San Francisco, Turing is the world's leading research accelerator for frontier AI labs and a trusted partner for global enterprises deploying advanced AI systems. Turing accelerates frontier research with high-quality data, advanced training pipelines, and top AI researchers specializing in coding, reasoning, STEM, multilinguality, multimodality, and agents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and validate simulation-based engineering problems that require genuine design reasoning, with clearly defined constraints and optimization goals.
  • Deliver complete problem sets including reference solutions, near-miss variants, edge cases, and thorough documentation.
  • Ensure appropriate difficulty levels with multiple failure modes built into each problem.
  • Collaborate with AI researchers to refine problems based on model performance and feedback.

Domain Tracks

Deep expertise in at least one of the following is required; expertise across multiple tracks is a strong plus:

  • Electrical & Computer Engineering — analog/mixed-signal IC design, power electronics, RF/microwave, digital systems, FPGA/ASIC, embedded systems
  • Mechanical Engineering — structural/thermal/fluid systems, mechanism design, HVAC, vibration/dynamics, manufacturing process design
  • Chemical Engineering — reactor design, process optimization, separation systems, transport phenomena, combustion and thermochemistry
  • Control Systems — classical and modern control design, state estimation, nonlinear and robust control, system identification
  • Materials / Nano — materials selection, microstructure-property design, thin-film and nanoscale device design
  • Engineering Physics / Optics — optical system design, photonic devices, laser systems, wave propagation
  • Aerospace Engineering — aerodynamic design, propulsion sizing, orbital mechanics, flight dynamics and stability
  • Civil / Structural Engineering — structural member and connection design, foundation design, seismic/wind loading, geotechnical design
  • Nuclear / Energy — reactor core design, shielding, thermal-hydraulics, renewable energy sizing, grid-scale storage
  • Systems Engineering — architecture trade studies, requirements decomposition, interface design, multi-subsystem integration
  • Robotics — kinematic/dynamic design, motion planning, actuator and sensor selection, mechatronic integration

Required Qualifications

  • Master's or PhD in a relevant engineering or applied science field
  • 3+ years of hands-on engineering design experience producing validated designs from competing specifications
  • Proficiency in at least one open-source simulation tool relevant to your domain
  • Strong Python (or equivalent) scripting skills
  • High attention to detail across units, boundary conditions, convergence, and physical realism

Engagement Details

  • Commitment: Minimum 4 hours/day, up to 40 hours/week, with at least 4 hours of overlap with PST
  • Type: Contractor

Evaluation Process

  • Shortlisted candidates will receive a Job Interest Form
  • After profile review, a timed assessment will be shared (must be completed within 24 hours)
  • Candidates who pass the assessment will be contacted to discuss pre-onboarding requirements
