Data Science Expert at Mercor

Mercor is seeking experienced Data Science Experts for a high-impact research collaboration with a leading AI lab. This is a fully remote, part-time contract role offering a competitive hourly rate of $60-100/hr.

As a Data Science Expert, you will play a crucial role in developing and evaluating advanced AI agents by designing and assessing exploratory data analysis tasks. You will be responsible for:

• Evaluating data analysis outputs from AI systems for quality and accuracy
• Performing statistical analysis and modeling on diverse datasets
• Designing prompts and detailed evaluation rubrics for reward modeling
• Producing gold-standard responses, including data visualizations, explanatory text, and executable Python code
• Translating data science reasoning into clear, gradable criteria for AI agents

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in a quantitative field, or 2+ years of industry experience in data science
• Proficiency in Python and key data science libraries (pandas, numpy, scikit-learn)
• Strong understanding of data analysis, statistical modeling, and machine learning principles
• Excellent analytical and data-driven writing skills

Project Details:

• Duration: 5-6 weeks
• Commitment: 10-20 hours/week, flexible and asynchronous
• Compensation: $60-100/hr, with potential bonus incentives
• Independent contractor status; weekly payments via Stripe Connect
