Design Expert at Mercor

Design Expert | $80–150/hr | Worldwide Remote

Mercor is partnering with a leading AI research organization to bring on experienced designers for a high-impact evaluation project. In this role, you won't be producing design deliverables — instead, you'll define what excellent design work looks like by building grading criteria and rigorously scoring AI-generated and human work samples with detailed, well-reasoned justifications.

Key Responsibilities

• Design precise, task-specific grading criteria for real-world design deliverables, including brand identity systems, campaign visuals, presentation layouts, packaging concepts, and digital/social assets
• Score AI-generated and human work samples against established criteria, providing detailed written justifications for every score
• Apply consistent, evidence-based judgment to ensure scores are reproducible and defensible
• Incorporate structured feedback from senior reviewers and iterate quickly on your evaluations

Ideal Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional experience in graphic, brand, or visual design
• Background at world-class design studios, creative agencies, or in senior design roles at leading consumer or technology brands
• Deep fluency in typography, layout, visual hierarchy, color, composition, brand systems, and design critique
• Exceptionally strong written communication skills — you can articulate precisely why a piece of work does or does not meet the bar
• Detail-oriented, consistent, and comfortable having your judgment reviewed and calibrated against peers
• Prior experience with AI training, evaluation, or human-data projects is a strong plus
