Design Expert at Mercor

Design Expert | $70–80/hr | Worldwide Remote

Mercor is hiring senior product designers and AI-assisted development professionals to build evaluation tasks for AI systems in rapid prototyping, product design, and human-AI collaborative coding environments. This is a high-impact contractor role contributing to the future of AI evaluation across two specialized tracks: Vibecoding (AI-assisted, natural-language-driven development) and Design (UX/UI, product design, and design systems).

Key Responsibilities

• Design evaluation scenarios spanning rapid prototyping, design system development, and cross-functional product-design-engineering collaboration.
• Build tasks covering AI-assisted application development, natural-language-to-code workflows, UX/UI design, component libraries, user research, and usability testing.
• Develop scenarios using tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, v0, and Replit (Vibecoding), as well as Figma, Framer, and design systems tooling (Design).
• Apply subdomain-specific methodologies — iterative prompt-driven development for Vibecoding; human-centered design and heuristic evaluation for Design.
• Produce reference prototypes, code artifacts, design specs, and usability evaluation reports.
• Author rubrics that distinguish authentic senior-level product judgment from generic or template-driven outputs.

Ideal Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a product designer, design lead, or AI-native engineer at a product- or design-forward company (e.g., Figma, Airbnb, Notion, Linear, or a notable startup).
• Direct ownership of shipped product design systems or AI-assisted development workflows.
• Fluency in vibecoding or design tooling, with a strong understanding of user-centered design and rapid prototyping practices.
• A portfolio of shipped work is strongly preferred; prior rubric writing, training data authorship, or design critique experience is a plus.
