Electrical Engineering Pod Lead | Contractor | Worldwide Remote

Turing is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineering Pod Lead to manage a small team of specialists creating simulation-based design problems used to train and evaluate cutting-edge AI models. This role blends technical leadership, hands-on engineering, and collaboration with frontier AI research teams.

About Turing

Based in San Francisco, Turing is the world's leading research accelerator for frontier AI labs and a trusted partner for global enterprises deploying advanced AI systems. Turing accelerates frontier research with high-quality data, advanced training pipelines, and top AI researchers specializing in coding, reasoning, STEM, multilinguality, multimodality, and agents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Lead and manage a pod of 4–8 Engineering Design Specialists — assigning tasks, reviewing deliverables, removing blockers, and mentoring on problem design, simulation rigor, and documentation.
  • AI Research Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact with AI research teams, translating model feedback into actionable refinements while running regular syncs and reporting progress to program leads.
  • Technical Oversight: Oversee and approve pod outputs, maintain reproducible Docker-based simulation environments, support cloud infrastructure for simulation and grading, and develop Python automation and validation workflows.
  • Problem Design: Personally design a portfolio of high-difficulty electrical engineering problems in your chosen subdomain, setting the quality bar and design philosophy for the entire pod.

Electrical Engineering Subdomains

Deep expertise in at least one of the following is required:

  • Analog / Mixed-Signal IC Design — op-amp topologies, ADC/DAC design, noise analysis, SPICE-level simulation
  • Power Electronics — DC-DC converters, inverter design, magnetics sizing, thermal management
  • RF / Microwave Engineering — filter design, impedance matching, S-parameter analysis, antenna design
  • Digital Systems / FPGA / ASIC — RTL design, timing closure, hardware-software co-design
  • Embedded Systems — microcontroller/DSP-based design, real-time constraints, peripheral interfacing

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline
  • 5+ years of hands-on EE design experience, owning designs from specification through validated implementation
  • 1–2+ years in a technical lead, senior engineer, or team coordination role
  • Proficiency with Python for scripting, automation, and simulation workflows
  • Hands-on Docker experience: building images, writing Dockerfiles, managing containerized environments
  • Familiarity with at least one cloud platform (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
  • Proficiency with at least one open-source EE simulation tool (e.g., ngspice, PySpice, Qucs, OpenEMS, scikit-rf)

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience designing graduate-level engineering coursework, exam problems, or design challenges
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines or automated testing frameworks
  • Exposure to LLM evaluation, AI benchmarking, or training data curation
  • Cross-domain familiarity with Control Systems, Embedded/Robotics, or Power Systems

Evaluation Process

  1. Shortlisted candidates will receive a Job Interest Form.
  2. Following profile review, an assessment will be shared — must be completed within 24 hours.
  3. Based on assessment outcomes, candidates may be invited to an interview round and contacted to discuss pre-onboarding requirements.
