Engineering Expert & Problem Writer | $60–80/hr | Worldwide Remote

Mercor is partnering with a leading AI research lab to advance frontier artificial intelligence through rigorous engineering problem design. We're seeking experienced engineers to create challenging, multi-step problems that test the limits of cutting-edge AI models while supporting advanced AI training initiatives.

This is a short-term, high-impact remote opportunity (approximately 2 months with strong extension potential) for engineering professionals ready to apply their expertise to groundbreaking AI research.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design original, advanced engineering problems requiring creative reasoning and multi-domain integration
  • Evaluate AI-generated solutions for technical accuracy, completeness, and adherence to physical constraints
  • Identify logical gaps, incorrect modeling assumptions, and computational inaccuracies
  • Provide complete, well-documented solutions using LaTeX formatting for equations and schematics
  • Maintain high standards of technical precision, rigor, and conceptual depth

Required Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (or equivalent experience) in mechanical, electrical, civil, aerospace, chemical engineering, or related field
  • Proficiency in creating technical documents using LaTeX (required)
  • Experience designing or grading complex analytical problems at university level or professional exams
  • Participation in or mentorship for engineering competitions (Formula SAE, Shell Eco-marathon, ASME/IEEE/AIChE contests, robotics challenges)
  • Deep understanding of core engineering principles and real-world systems modeling
  • Strong ability to communicate step-by-step reasoning and derivations clearly
  • Detail-oriented verification skills and intuition for problem difficulty assessment

Opportunity Details:

  • Time commitment: 20–40 hours per week (flexible)
  • Duration: Approximately 2 months with potential for extension based on performance
  • Rolling onboarding with quick start (typically 1–2 days after approval)
  • Independent contractor arrangement with weekly payments via Stripe Connect
  • Open to contributors worldwide (English proficiency required)
