Engineering Simulation Specialist at Mercor

Engineering Simulation Specialist | $60–90/hr | Worldwide Remote

Join a frontier engineering-reasoning evaluation project in collaboration with a leading AI research lab. In this role, you will design and run simulations to test whether state-of-the-art AI models can reason from first principles — not just recall facts — within your specific engineering domain. You'll gain direct visibility into the model's internal reasoning on your own tasks.

What You'll Do

• Design domain-specific simulations and specification sheets that challenge AI models to produce valid engineering artifacts (e.g., controller gains, circuit parameters, mechanical geometry).
• Define clear pass/fail acceptance criteria with quantitative, testable thresholds.
• Craft prompts that guide the model through your simulation environment using a limited number of interaction calls.
• Review and validate model-submitted designs using an agentic grader that runs your simulation and scores spec satisfaction.
• Work within a browser-based studio and collaborate via GitHub.

Who We're Looking For

• Deep applied expertise in one or more of the following: control systems, analog or RF circuits, power electronics, or mechanical design.
• PhD or equivalent industry experience demonstrating strong first-principles engineering knowledge.
• Proficiency in writing simulations and expressing acceptance criteria in Python.
• Ability to design rigorous, non-trivial problems that resist shortcuts yet remain objectively evaluable.
• Comfortable using browser-based tools and GitHub for collaboration.
