Experienced Generalist Writer | $45/hr | Worldwide Remote | ~20 hrs/week

Mercor is partnering with a leading AI lab to bring on skilled, versatile writers for an AI training data project. You'll craft natural, high-quality prompts and responses across a broad range of real-world writing formats — helping AI models produce writing that feels more human, more polished, and more attuned to the conventions of each genre. All work must be entirely human-written; LLM-generated content is strictly prohibited.

Key Responsibilities

• Write realistic prompts that reflect how professionals and everyday users request written content across categories such as:
  • Communication: emails, short-form messages, polished notes, speeches
  • Essays: criticism, interpretive analysis, structured arguments
  • Concepts: explainers at varying levels, tutorials, how-to guides
  • Journalism: profiles, reported narratives, news explainers, backgrounders
  • Business: memos, strategy docs, product specs, performance reviews
  • Academic: related work sections, paper outlines
  • Product & Marketing: onboarding flows, help documentation
• Craft polished, high-quality responses demonstrating strong command of tone, structure, accuracy, and audience-awareness
• Adapt voice and style to suit each context — a casual Slack message should read very differently from a product requirements doc or a news explainer

Ideal Qualifications

• Professional background in journalism, education, content marketing, non-fiction writing, communications, or a related field
• A strong portfolio of published writing, editorial work, curriculum development, or content strategy
• Versatility and range — comfort writing across multiple formats, audiences, and levels of formality
• Sharp instincts for tone, structure, and clarity
• High attention to detail and a strong personal standard for quality
