Fraud Investigation Expert | $60–80/hr | Worldwide Remote

Mercor is partnering with leading AI labs on Project Atlas — an initiative to build realistic enterprise environments where frontier AI agents are trained and evaluated. We're seeking seasoned fraud investigation and financial crime professionals from Fortune 500 banks, major card issuers, and large fintech or insurance firms to help recreate the digital workspaces they use every day and design tasks that genuinely challenge state-of-the-art AI systems.

What You'll Do

  • Build a high-fidelity digital workspace mirroring real financial institution environments — including case files, SAR/CTR drafts, typology memos, alert-triage notes, and email threads organized as you would in your day-to-day role
  • Incorporate representations of key platforms such as Refinitiv World-Check, Dow Jones Risk & Compliance, Splunk SIEM, and Fiserv/FIS exports
  • Design multi-step, realistic tasks grounded in actual fraud investigation workflows that meaningfully challenge frontier AI agents
  • Collaborate asynchronously with fellow fraud and financial crime experts to review scenarios for realism and rigor
  • Work with AI research teams to refine task designs and evaluation criteria for fraud-investigation agent benchmarks
  • Directly contribute to the training and evaluation of next-generation AI systems

Ideal Qualifications

  • 3+ years of full-time fraud or financial crime experience at a Fortune 500 bank, large card issuer, fintech, or insurance firm
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas:
    • BSA/AML compliance, OFAC sanctions screening, and SAR/CTR filings
    • Fraud operations — application fraud, account takeover, transaction fraud, or first-party fraud
    • Financial crime investigations, EDD, and high-risk customer review
    • Insurance claims fraud (SIU) or merchant/acquirer fraud
    • Regulatory exam response (OCC, FinCEN, Federal Reserve, state DFS)
  • Day-to-day experience with tools such as Refinitiv World-Check, Dow Jones Risk & Compliance, Splunk SIEM, Microsoft Sentinel, or FIS/Fiserv/Jack Henry
  • Strong analytical and written communication skills — able to translate complex investigations into structured task specifications
  • Certifications a plus: CAMS, CFE, CFCS

Compensation

This role begins at an effective hourly rate of $60–$80/hr. Over time, compensation will transition to a throughput-based model rewarding the quality and volume of work produced.
