History Expert | $50–$100/hr | Worldwide Remote | Contractor

AFTERQUERY is seeking experienced historians to develop source analysis and historical reasoning scenarios used by frontier AI labs to evaluate and test model judgment. This is a flexible, fully remote, asynchronous contract role with weekly pay.

In this role, you will craft rigorous, nuanced historical reasoning challenges that push the boundaries of AI comprehension — drawing on your expertise in primary sources, historiography, and analytical writing.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop source analysis scenarios grounded in authentic historical methodology
• Build historical reasoning tasks that assess AI model judgment across diverse periods and regions
• Document your reasoning process clearly and thoroughly in written English
• Collaborate asynchronously with a team of subject-matter experts and researchers

Required Qualifications

• Advanced degree (MA, PhD, or equivalent) in History or a closely related field
• 2+ years of experience in teaching, research, archival work, or published historical scholarship
• Demonstrated depth in a specific historical period or region with hands-on primary source experience
• Strong written English communication skills for documenting complex historical reasoning
• Ability to commit a minimum of 10 hours per week

• Rate: $50–$100/hr (based on experience)
