Insurance Domain Expert | $60–100/hr | Hybrid – Bay Area, CA
Join a leading AI lab's GenAI research team as a senior Insurance and Actuarial Domain Expert. In this hybrid, full-time role, you'll work directly alongside frontier AI researchers to shape how advanced AI models reason about real-world insurance work — reviewing outputs, writing golden datasets, and building benchmarks that define what professional-grade insurance knowledge looks like.
This is a W-2 employment position with Cincinnatus LLC, placed within a top-tier AI lab's extended workforce in the Bay Area, CA. Candidates must be local or willing to relocate at their own expense.
Key Responsibilities
- Data QA & Review: Evaluate insurance knowledge tasks and model outputs, identifying flawed actuarial assumptions, misapplied policy language, and reasoning that wouldn't survive professional scrutiny.
- Instruction Specs & Golden Datasets: Write high-quality instruction specs and produce authoritative golden solutions to complex insurance and actuarial problems.
- Benchmarks & Evaluation: Design challenging domain-specific evaluation sets and help build insurance-focused skills and tools alongside the research team.
- Calibration: Translate tacit insurance judgment into explicit, teachable criteria and maintain consistent standards across research teams and adjacent specialists.
Core Qualifications
- Credentials: Actuarial credential (FSA, ASA, FCAS, or ACAS) or an active state insurance license in adjusting, underwriting, or broking (e.g., all-lines adjuster license).
- Experience: 4+ years at a carrier, reinsurer, broker, adjusting firm, or insurance regulator.
- Domain Depth: Genuine specialization in at least one area — life & annuity, P&C, health, reinsurance, pricing & reserving, ERM, claims adjudication, or underwriting.
- Seniority: Demonstrated progression to a senior role (e.g., Actuary, AVP, Director, Claims Manager, Head of Underwriting) with real ownership of a book, reserve, or portfolio.
- AI Fluency: Hands-on professional use of large language models and the judgment to distinguish well-reasoned answers from plausible-sounding errors.
- Availability: 40 hours/week for an initial 6-month engagement.
- Location: Must reside in or relocate to the Bay Area, CA (relocation assistance not provided).
