Intellectual Property Expert | $90–100/hr | Worldwide Remote

Mercor is seeking experienced intellectual property professionals to design evaluation tasks for AI systems operating in patent prosecution, licensing, and IP enforcement contexts. This role is ideal for senior IP attorneys or patent agents who want to shape how AI understands and performs complex IP work.

About the Role

Contributors will build evaluation scenarios across two tracks: a US track (35 U.S.C., MPEP, USPTO procedure) and an International track (European Patent Convention, PCT, WIPO treaties). Experts qualified in either or both tracks are encouraged to apply. Tasks are calibrated to reflect the technical complexity and commercial stakes of major patent portfolios, licensing programs, and IP litigation.

Key Responsibilities

• Construct IP scenarios spanning patent prosecution, portfolio strategy, trademark and copyright disputes, and complex licensing or technology transfer processes.
• Build tasks across patent prosecution, IP litigation and enforcement, trademark and copyright practice, licensing and technology transfer, and freedom-to-operate analysis.
• Develop scenarios involving tools such as PatSnap, Innography, USPTO PatFT, Anaqua, CPA Global, and claim-charting platforms used across major IP practices.
• Apply IP methodologies — including patentability analysis, claim construction, and freedom-to-operate review — to produce reference patent applications, office action responses, licensing agreements, and litigation memoranda.
• Author rubrics that distinguish authentic senior-level IP judgment from generic legal recall.

Ideal Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as an IP attorney or patent agent at a major IP firm (e.g., Fish & Richardson, Finnegan, Wilson Sonsini) or in a corporate IP department at a technology or pharmaceutical company.
• Direct ownership of patent prosecution portfolios, licensing negotiations, or IP litigation matters.
• Fluency in IP tooling and methodologies, with a strong understanding of USPTO/EPO procedures and international treaty systems.
• JD with bar admission and USPTO patent bar registration strongly preferred; European Patent Attorney qualification or equivalent international credential also valued.
• Technical or STEM background and prior experience with rubric or training content authorship is a plus.
