Position Overview
Mercor is partnering with a leading frontier AI research lab to advance mathematical reasoning capabilities in large language models. We seek International Mathematics Olympiad medalists to develop and evaluate Olympiad-level problems that will train AI systems to surpass world-class human performance.
Eligibility: Strictly limited to IMO medalists (Gold, Silver, or Bronze) within the past 5 years.
Key Responsibilities
- Problem Creation: Design original, advanced Olympiad-style mathematics problems across algebra, geometry, combinatorics, and number theory
- Solution Evaluation: Review and assess AI-generated solutions for correctness, completeness, and mathematical rigor
- Quality Assurance: Identify logical flaws, incomplete reasoning, and insufficient proof structures
- Expert Feedback: Provide structured commentary and model solutions to improve AI reasoning systems
Required Qualifications
All qualifications are mandatory - applications from non-medalists cannot be considered.
- IMO Medal: Gold, Silver, or Bronze medal from the International Mathematical Olympiad (or equivalent international competition) within the past 5 years
- Mathematical Expertise: Deep knowledge across core Olympiad domains
- Communication Skills: Ability to articulate complex mathematical reasoning clearly in writing
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional precision in solution verification
- Work Style: Independent, reliable, and self-directed
Project Details
- Duration: Approximately 10 weeks (extension possible based on performance)
- Commitment: 20-40 hours per week
- Schedule: Flexible, remote work on your own timeline
- Start Date: Rolling basis, typically 1-2 days after approval
- Location: Global (English proficiency required)
Compensation
- Rate: $60-85 per hour
