IP Expert — Patent / Trademark | $85–$120/hr | Remote (US, Canada, UK)

Mercor is partnering with a leading AI lab to train frontier models on high-quality legal reasoning data. We're seeking experienced IP practitioners — including patent agents, patent attorneys, and trademark specialists — to help shape how the next generation of AI understands patent prosecution, trademark practice, and IP analysis.

What You'll Do

• Design realistic IP scenarios drawn from your practice, including Office Action responses, prior art analysis, patent drafting, clearance opinions, TTAB proceedings, and FTO analysis
• Write authoritative, attorney/agent-level reference responses to IP scenarios
• Evaluate and grade AI-generated responses using structured rubrics
• Provide detailed written feedback to help the research team improve model behavior
• Participate in onboarding office hours and specialty calibration sessions

Who We're Looking For

• Registered patent agent or patent attorney (USPTO, CIPO, or UKIPO), or trademark practitioner with a J.D., LL.B., or LL.M.
• 1–4 years of professional experience in IP prosecution or litigation
• Active bar admission or USPTO/CIPO/UKIPO registration in good standing
• Technical background in engineering, computer science, life sciences, or chemistry (preferred for patent roles)
• Excellent written communication skills with strong attention to detail

Bonus Qualifications

• IP litigation experience (claim charts, invalidity analysis, Markman hearing prep)
• IP portfolio management experience
• Inter Partes Review (IPR) or Post-Grant Review (PGR) experience
• Familiarity with patent analytics tools such as PatSnap, Derwent, or Google Patents

Role Details

• Commitment: Minimum 20 hours/week; 40+ hours preferred
• Location: Fully remote — must be based in the United States, Canada, or United Kingdom
• Start Date: Immediate; applications reviewed on a rolling basis
• Compensation: $85–$120/hr depending on experience and specialization
