Mercor is partnering with a leading AI lab to train frontier models on high-quality legal reasoning data. We're seeking experienced IP practitioners — including patent agents, patent attorneys, and trademark specialists — to help shape how the next generation of AI understands patent prosecution, trademark practice, and IP analysis.
What You'll Do
- Design realistic IP scenarios drawn from your practice, including Office Action responses, prior art analysis, patent drafting, clearance opinions, TTAB proceedings, and FTO analysis
- Write authoritative, attorney/agent-level reference responses to IP scenarios
- Evaluate and grade AI-generated responses using structured rubrics
- Provide detailed written feedback to help the research team improve model behavior
- Participate in onboarding office hours and specialty calibration sessions
Who We're Looking For
- Registered patent agent or patent attorney (USPTO, CIPO, or UKIPO), or trademark practitioner with a J.D., LL.B., or LL.M.
- 1–4 years of professional experience in IP prosecution or litigation
- Active bar admission or USPTO/CIPO/UKIPO registration in good standing
- Technical background in engineering, computer science, life sciences, or chemistry (preferred for patent roles)
- Excellent written communication skills with strong attention to detail
Bonus Qualifications
- IP litigation experience (claim charts, invalidity analysis, Markman hearing prep)
- IP portfolio management experience
- Inter Partes Review (IPR) or Post-Grant Review (PGR) experience
- Familiarity with patent analytics tools such as PatSnap, Derwent, or Google Patents
Role Details
- Commitment: Minimum 20 hours/week; 40+ hours preferred
- Location: Fully remote — must be based in the United States, Canada, or United Kingdom
- Start Date: Immediate; applications reviewed on a rolling basis
- Compensation: $85–$120/hr depending on experience and specialization
