IP Law Expert at Mercor

IP Law Expert | $100–120/hr | Worldwide Remote

Mercor is seeking experienced intellectual property attorneys from AmLaw 100/200 firms or Fortune 500 in-house IP teams to contribute to Project Atlas — a cutting-edge initiative partnering with leading AI labs to build realistic enterprise environments for training and evaluating frontier AI agents. Your legal expertise will directly shape the next generation of AI systems.

What You'll Do

• Build high-fidelity digital workspaces that mirror real IP practice — including client memos, patent and trademark drafts, prior-art search results, opinion letters, licensing agreements, docket printouts, and email threads
• Represent the platforms you use daily, such as Westlaw/LexisNexis, HotDocs, and Relativity
• Design multi-step, realistic tasks grounded in end-to-end client engagements — from origination and prosecution through counseling, enforcement, and litigation
• Collaborate asynchronously with fellow IP attorneys and research teams to refine task designs and evaluation criteria for AI benchmarks
• Review scenarios for realism and rigor, ensuring tasks meaningfully challenge state-of-the-art AI agents

Ideal Qualifications

• JD with active bar admission; USPTO registration required for patent practitioners
• 3+ years of full-time IP experience at an AmLaw 100/200 firm or Fortune 500 in-house IP team
• Expertise in one or more of the following areas:
  • Patent prosecution (utility, design, PCT) — tech, life sciences, or mechanical
  • Trademark prosecution and portfolio management
  • IP litigation (district court, PTAB, ITC) or post-grant proceedings
  • IP licensing, due diligence, and transactions
  • Trade-secret and IP enforcement strategy
• Day-to-day proficiency with Westlaw/LexisNexis, HotDocs or Contract Express, and Relativity
• Strong analytical and writing skills — able to translate complex legal workflows into structured task specifications

Compensation

This role begins at an effective hourly rate of $100–$120/hr, with a planned transition to a throughput-based compensation model rewarding quality output.
