Role Overview

As a Japanese Annotator, you will play a critical role in improving AI language models by transcribing, annotating, and reviewing audio content in both Japanese and English. Your work will directly impact the quality and accuracy of next-generation AI systems.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Listen to audio recordings and accurately transcribe spoken content following provided syntax and formatting guidelines.
  • Annotate non-verbal cues such as pauses, laughter, tone changes, and background reactions to capture full context.
  • Review and edit transcriptions to ensure they are contextually accurate, complete, and compliant with project-specific standards.
  • Identify and report inconsistencies or ambiguities in speech or annotation, providing clear feedback for quality improvement.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to maintain high-quality standards in transcription and annotation accuracy.

Requirements

  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Japanese is mandatory.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback and detailed annotations.
  • Creative and lateral thinking abilities.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently in a remote setting.
  • Availability of up to 40 hours per week with some overlap with US Pacific Time (UTC-8, 2–5 hrs/day).
  • Desktop or laptop with a reliable internet connection.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Literature, Journalism, Communications, Arts, Statistics, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Professional writing experience (e.g., business analyst, copywriter, journalist, technical writer, translator).
  • Proficiency with Excel and Google Suite.
  • Strong data interpretation, logical reasoning, and basic arithmetic skills.

Engagement Details

  • Type: Contractor / Freelancer (no medical or paid leave)
  • Duration: 2-week initial pilot with potential for extension
  • Hours: Up to 40 hours/week preferred
