Law Expert at Mercor

Law Expert | $75–$150/hr | Worldwide Remote

Mercor is partnering with a leading AI lab to train frontier models on high-quality legal reasoning data. We are seeking experienced legal research professionals with deep Westlaw expertise to evaluate AI-generated legal research, verify legal authority, and help shape how the next generation of AI reasons about complex legal issues.

What You'll Do

• Evaluate AI-generated legal research against real-world professional standards
• Verify that cited cases, statutes, and regulations are accurate, current, and remain good law
• Identify incorrect citations, misstated holdings, outdated authority, and missing controlling precedent
• Distinguish binding from persuasive authority and provide clear written explanations supporting your evaluations
• Provide structured feedback and participate in calibration sessions to improve AI legal research quality

Who We're Looking For

• 2+ years of professional legal experience in a litigation- or research-heavy role, or as a law librarian or legal researcher
• Regular, hands-on use of Westlaw in current or recent professional work
• Experience validating case law, statutes, regulations, and citations using KeyCite and other Westlaw features
• Holds a J.D. with bar admission, or an MLIS (or equivalent) with professional law librarian or legal research experience

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience as a judicial law clerk or research attorney
• Familiarity with Lex Machina, PACER, Practical Law, or other advanced legal research tools
• Experience conducting multi-jurisdiction or 50-state legal research
• Background in commercial litigation, appellate law, employment, regulatory, or government practice
