Legal Expert — Compliance / Regulatory | $85–$120/hr | Remote (US, Canada, UK)

Mercor is partnering with a leading AI research lab to train next-generation frontier models using high-quality legal reasoning data. We are seeking experienced Compliance and Regulatory Attorneys to help shape how AI understands regulatory frameworks, internal investigations, and complex compliance work.

What You'll Do

• Design realistic regulatory scenarios drawn from your practice area — including AML/SAR preparation, OFAC screening, FCPA assessments, FDA submissions, HIPAA reviews, environmental permitting, administrative hearings, and privacy impact assessments (PIA/DPIA)
• Write attorney-quality "golden" reference responses to legal scenarios
• Evaluate and grade AI-generated responses using structured rubrics
• Provide detailed written feedback to help the research team improve model behavior
• Participate in onboarding office hours and specialty calibration sessions

Who We're Looking For

• 1–4 years of professional experience in regulatory or compliance law (law firm, in-house, government agency, or regulator)
• J.D. (US/Canada) or LL.B./LL.M. (UK) from an accredited law school
• Active or inactive license to practice law in the US, Canada, or UK
• Strong expertise in one or more of: AML/BSA, OFAC sanctions, FCPA/anti-corruption, healthcare regulatory (HIPAA, Stark Law, Anti-Kickback, Medicare/Medicaid), FDA submissions, privacy law (GDPR/CCPA), environmental permitting, export control, or administrative hearings
• Excellent written communication skills with strong attention to detail

Bonus Qualifications

• CIPP, CFE, CAMS, or similar professional certification
• Internal compliance investigation experience
• Experience drafting compliance training programs
• Familiarity with regulatory portals such as FDA.gov, FederalRegister.gov, NLRB.gov, or EEOC.gov

Role Details

• Commitment: Minimum 20 hours/week (40+ preferred)
• Location: Fully remote — must be based in the United States, Canada, or United Kingdom
• Start Date: Immediate — applications reviewed on a rolling basis
• Compensation: $85–$120/hr depending on experience and specialization

Regulatory counsel, in-house compliance attorneys, former regulators, and specialists in AML/BSA, FCPA, FDA, healthcare, sanctions, or privacy are all strongly encouraged to apply.
