Literature Expert at AfterQuery

Literature Expert | $50–$100/hr | Worldwide Remote | Async Contract

AFTERQUERY is seeking experienced literary scholars to help shape the future of AI. In this role, you will design and build close reading and textual interpretation scenarios used by frontier AI labs to evaluate and refine model judgment in literary analysis.

This is a fully remote, asynchronous contract position with weekly pay — ideal for academics, researchers, or editors looking to apply their expertise in a cutting-edge AI context.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop nuanced close reading and literary interpretation scenarios for AI model evaluation
• Document interpretive reasoning clearly and rigorously in written English
• Engage with texts across a range of periods, genres, and literary traditions
• Collaborate asynchronously with the AFTERQUERY team to refine scenario quality

Required Qualifications

• Advanced degree (MA, MFA, or PhD) in Literature, English, Comparative Literature, or a closely related field
• 2+ years of experience in teaching, academic research, editorial work, or published literary scholarship
• Demonstrated depth in close reading across multiple periods, genres, or traditions
• Strong written English skills for articulating and documenting interpretive reasoning
• Availability to commit a minimum of 10 hours per week
