Market Curation Editor (Culture) | Freelance Contract | Worldwide Remote

Join a fast-moving Product Data Operations team supporting a new social-predictions app in beta. As a Market Curation Editor focused on Culture, you serve as the human judgment layer over an automated pipeline — reviewing, refining, and approving prediction markets centered on U.S. entertainment and pop culture. This role demands deep, real-time fluency in television, film, music, celebrity, and fandom — not just historical knowledge, but what people are talking about right now.

What You'll Do

  • Review a daily queue of system-generated culture markets against a fixed completion deadline.
  • Assess each candidate for factual accuracy, clarity, and adjudicable resolution criteria — accounting for shifting release dates, changing awards categories, and revised chart methodologies.
  • Verify that market open and close timing aligns with real-world events: announcements, broadcasts, releases, and ceremonies.
  • Make relevance calls — determining whether a market is culturally live or technically correct but effectively dead.
  • Confirm policy compliance against community standards and content guidelines, escalating any markets touching private life, health, minors, grief, or unverified allegations.
  • Approve, edit, or reject candidates with structured, categorized reasoning — this record is a core product deliverable.
  • Rewrite questions and resolution language for precision and authentic fandom voice.
  • Author timestamped clarifications for live markets and handle settlement where no authoritative feed exists.
  • Proactively scan social platforms, fan communities, and entertainment press for culturally significant moments the pipeline missed.
  • Participate in weekly calibration reviews to maintain consistency with published guidelines and fellow curators.

What We're Looking For

  • 3+ years in entertainment journalism, editorial, or social/community management with current subject-matter expertise.
  • Demonstrable, active fluency in U.S. entertainment culture — TV, film, music, celebrity, and fandom — following it now.
  • Working knowledge of the U.S. media landscape: which outlets break news, which are reliable, and which announcements are real versus speculative.
  • Sound judgment on ambiguity: rumor vs. confirmation, contested outcomes, and shifting methodologies.
  • Exceptional written precision under deadline — crafting unambiguous rules that hold up after outcomes are known.
  • Strong instinct for when coverage of a real person crosses from public interest into private life, with the discipline to escalate rather than guess.
  • Availability for evening, overnight, and weekend work around live events.

Nice to Have

  • Background as an entertainment journalist (e.g., Entertainment Tonight, People, BuzzFeed News, or a relevant Substack).
  • Familiarity with prediction markets as a participant or observer.
  • Prior newsroom experience or managing social platforms for a news or entertainment brand under hard daily deadlines.
  • Experience with content policy, moderation frameworks, or editorial standards around private individuals.
  • A track record of spotting trends and cultural moments forming in real time.
  • Active standing in high-velocity digital communities or fandoms (reality TV, streaming, pop culture, gaming).

How Success Is Measured

  • Consistent, on-time completion of the daily market queue.
  • Decision quality — strong agreement with peers on calibration samples and a low rate of markets requiring void or amendment.
  • Reason quality — structured, specific, and correctly categorized rejection rationale.
  • Rewrite quality — published questions that survive contact with real-world outcomes without dispute.
  • Proactive contribution — culturally live moments surfaced that the pipeline didn't generate.

As a contractor, you will supply your own secure computer and high-speed internet. Company-sponsored benefits such as health insurance and PTO do not apply.
