Materials & Engineering Specialist | $60–90/hr | Worldwide Remote

Join Mercor in a unique contractor role where your deep engineering expertise directly shapes how AI models are evaluated on real-world expert tasks. You'll design, build, and refine domain-authentic challenges that push AI to its limits — and help define what "expert-level" performance actually looks like.

What You'll Do

• Author realistic, domain-authentic tasks based on work you've genuinely performed in your field.
• Build comprehensive data rooms and objective grading criteria to make each task reliably scorable.
• Run tasks against AI models, analyze successes and failures, and iterate until the task meaningfully discriminates between strong and weak reasoning.
• Collaborate with project leads and fellow domain experts to establish quality benchmarks for your discipline.

Who We're Looking For

• Materials Science: Senior expertise in metals, ceramics, composites, characterization, or additive manufacturing.
• Electrical Engineering: Deep knowledge in analog, RF, or power systems.
• Mechanical Engineering: Proficiency in design, CFD/fluids, heat transfer, pressure vessels, NDE, or CAE.
• Comfortable working in ambiguous, evolving environments — shaping the work is part of the role.
• Able to articulate not just the correct answer, but precisely why an incorrect answer fails.
