Materials Science & Engineering Expert | $100–130/hr | Worldwide Remote | Async Contract

AFTERQUERY is seeking experienced materials scientists and engineers to develop selection and failure analysis scenarios used by frontier AI labs to evaluate and test model judgment. This is a fully remote, asynchronous contract role with weekly pay.

What You'll Do

• Design and document realistic materials selection scenarios that challenge AI model reasoning
• Build failure analysis case studies grounded in real-world engineering contexts
• Apply deep domain expertise to ensure technical accuracy and rigor across scenarios
• Communicate complex materials reasoning clearly in written English for use in AI evaluation pipelines

Required Qualifications

• Degree in Materials Science and Engineering or a closely related field
• 2+ years of professional experience in materials engineering or R&D
• Demonstrated depth in at least one materials class — metals, polymers, ceramics, or semiconductors
• Strong written English skills for documenting technical reasoning clearly and precisely
• Ability to commit a minimum of 10 hours per week

Compensation & Details

• Rate: $100–$130/hr depending on experience
• Schedule: Fully asynchronous — work on your own time
• Payment: Paid weekly
• Location: 100% remote, open worldwide
