Materials Science Expert | $85–$93/hr | Fully Remote | Part-Time (~20 hrs/week)

Mercor is seeking a skilled Materials Science Expert to author, review, and annotate technical tasks that evaluate AI model performance on complex materials science problems. This is a flexible, remote opportunity ideal for researchers or engineers looking to apply their domain expertise in a meaningful and well-compensated capacity.

What You'll Do

• Produce original problem sets grounded in phase diagrams, micrographs, stress-strain curves, and characterization data
• Write clear, accurate reference solutions for technical materials science tasks
• Review and annotate tasks using structured quality frameworks
• Contribute to the evaluation and improvement of AI model performance in your domain

Who We're Looking For

• PhD in Materials Science, Metallurgy, or a related engineering field — or MS in Materials Science with 3+ years of applied research or industry experience — or BS in Materials Engineering with 5+ years of lab, characterization, or process experience
• Working fluency in at least two of: phase equilibria, mechanical behavior, crystallography, polymers, or characterization techniques (XRD, SEM, TEM)
• Comfortable interpreting micrographs, diffraction patterns, and material property charts
• A publication record or industry R&D background is a plus and may accelerate advancement

Compensation & Schedule

• Starting rate: $85/hr, with potential to earn up to $93/hr based on task quality and throughput
• Part-time commitment of approximately 20 hours per week
• Fully remote with a flexible schedule
