Turing is seeking skilled mathematics professionals based in the USA to help fine-tune and evaluate large language models (LLMs). This is a fully remote contractor role ideal for graduate students, PhD candidates, or postdoctoral researchers in mathematics or related fields who want to future-proof their careers in an AI-first world.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and solve challenging math problems to probe the limitations of large language models.
• Develop high-quality, step-by-step solutions with clear and rigorous reasoning.
• Collaborate with LLM researchers to align problem types with evaluation goals — particularly in areas where models commonly struggle, such as abstraction, multi-step reasoning, and symbolic manipulation.
• Contribute to defining new evaluation benchmarks spanning early undergraduate to PhD-level mathematics topics.

Requirements

• Must be based in the USA.
• Pursuing or holding a Master's, Ph.D., or Postdoctoral degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
• Strong ability to analyze and solve complex math problems with a structured, logical approach.
• Ability to explain mathematical concepts clearly using simple language, visuals, and examples.
• Strong research, analytical, and creative thinking skills.
• Ability to provide constructive feedback and detailed annotations.
• Excellent written communication and collaboration skills in a remote setting.
• Self-motivated and capable of working independently.
• Reliable desktop or laptop with a strong internet connection.

Engagement Details

• Type: Contractor
• Commitment: Minimum 30 hours/week (options: 30 or 40 hrs/week), with at least 4 hours of daily overlap with PST.
• Environment: Fully remote
