Mechanical Engineering Expert | $70–80/hr | Worldwide Remote

Mercor is seeking experienced senior mechanical engineers to design and evaluate AI task scenarios rooted in Fortune 500 enterprise product design and manufacturing environments. This is a high-impact contract role where your real-world engineering expertise directly shapes how AI systems are trained and assessed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Construct enterprise-grade mechanical engineering scenarios spanning complex product design cycles, multi-stakeholder design reviews, and manufacturing or regulatory certification processes at F500 scale.
  • Build evaluation tasks covering F500 product design and CAD modeling, thermal/fluid systems analysis, structural and stress analysis, manufacturing process engineering, and reliability/failure analysis.
  • Develop realistic scenarios utilizing tools such as SolidWorks, ANSYS, CATIA, MATLAB/Simulink, and enterprise PLM systems (Siemens Teamcenter, PTC Windchill).
  • Apply enterprise methodologies including FEA/CFD simulation, DFM/DFA principles, Six Sigma/DFSS, and GD&T standards to produce reference design specifications, engineering analyses, and executive-level technical narratives.
  • Author evaluation rubrics that distinguish authentic senior engineering judgment from generic or textbook-level responses.

Ideal Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as a mechanical engineer or engineering lead at a Fortune 500 industrial, automotive, aerospace, or manufacturing company (e.g., GE, Boeing, Caterpillar, Ford, Honeywell).
  • Direct ownership of F500-scale product designs, manufacturing processes, or engineering certification programs.
  • Deep fluency in enterprise mechanical engineering tooling and methodologies, with practical understanding of F500 safety standards, regulatory certification (ISO, FAA, FDA), and cross-functional design governance.
  • Prior experience authoring rubrics, engineering training curricula, or formal design documentation is a strong plus.

This is a flexible, hourly contract engagement ideal for senior engineers looking to contribute to cutting-edge AI development while leveraging their industry expertise.

How to apply for this role
  • Upload your resume — keep it up-to-date and in English. Mercor will auto-fill your profile from it.
  • Complete the AI interview — a 15-minute conversation about your experience. Be ready to discuss specific projects and challenges you've solved.
  • Submit your application — only about 20% of applicants finish all the steps, so completing yours puts you well ahead.
