AFTERQUERY is assembling a research cohort of senior domain experts in mechanical and hardware design to help evaluate how frontier AI models reason about complex, real-world engineering problems. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of AI by defining what correct and excellent look like in your area of deep expertise.

About the Role

This is research and evaluation work, not production engineering. You'll be assessing AI-generated solutions to hard, expert-level problems across domains including CAD, RTL, and robotics — drawing on your hands-on experience to provide structured, high-quality technical feedback.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate AI model outputs on challenging mechanical and hardware design problems
• Define quality benchmarks and articulate what constitutes a correct or excellent solution
• Author clear, structured technical explanations and detailed feedback
• Work independently in an asynchronous, remote environment

Required Qualifications

• Currently or recently active in mechanical or hardware design — hands-on experience required, not purely academic
• Strong written communication skills; ability to produce clear technical explanations and structured critiques
• Comfortable with independent, asynchronous, remote work

Compensation: $100 – $170/hr, depending on experience and expertise.
