Mechanical/Industrial Engineering Expert | $75–$100/hr | Remote (US & Canada)

Mercor is partnering with leading AI labs to advance frontier agent evaluations in mechanical and industrial engineering. In this role, you'll design challenging, long-horizon engineering tasks that mirror real-world work — each paired with a deterministic rubric grading AI agent performance against verifiable ground truth. All tasks must have checkable, objective answers.

What You'll Do

  • Design Review: Evaluate drawings and GD&T against defect lists; validate CAD models against specified dimensions.
  • Analysis: Build tolerance stack-ups with computable results; conduct DFM/DFA reviews against defined checklists.
  • Change Management: Create ECO scenarios with required fields; structure BOMs to match target configurations.

These tasks require deep focus and extended work sessions — expect intellectually demanding, high-quality engineering work.

Who We're Looking For

  • BS or MS in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering with 3+ years in design, manufacturing engineering, or product development.
  • Proficiency in one or more: CAD tools (SolidWorks, Creo, NX, CATIA, Fusion 360), GD&T, PLM systems (Arena, Teamcenter, Windchill), or manufacturing processes (machining, injection molding, sheet metal, additive manufacturing).
  • Comfortable producing and interpreting mechanical artifacts: 2D drawings, BOMs, tolerance analyses, ECOs, and DFM reviews.
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to articulate step-by-step reasoning and encode it into structured rubrics.
  • Must be located in the United States or Canada.

Compensation

$75–$100/hr based on domain expertise and experience. High-performing contributors are promoted based on task quality and throughput.

How to apply for this role
  • Upload your resume — keep it up-to-date and in English. Mercor will auto-fill your profile from it.
  • Complete the AI interview — a 15-minute conversation about your experience. Be ready to discuss specific projects and challenges you've solved.
  • Submit your application — only about 20% of applicants finish all the steps, so completing yours puts you well ahead.
