Meteorologist – Weather Model Labeling at Mercor

Meteorologist – HRRR Model Labeling | $45–55/hr | Worldwide Remote

Mercor is seeking experienced meteorologists to contribute to the development of a large-scale physics AI model. In this expert role, you will interpret High-Resolution Rapid Refresh (HRRR) model outputs and produce high-quality, natural-language labels that explain observed weather phenomena and their underlying physical mechanisms.

What You'll Do

• Analyze single-frame HRRR model visualizations (4 images per timestamp) at specific time steps
• Identify key atmospheric features such as troughs, jet streaks, fronts, instability zones, and convective activity
• Explain the physical mechanisms driving observed conditions — including vorticity advection, moisture transport, upper-level divergence, and thermodynamic lift
• Produce clear, structured, and technically accurate written explanations grounded strictly in HRRR model data (no radar, satellite, or AFD references)

Requirements

• Degree in Meteorology or Atmospheric Science OR 2+ years of operational forecasting experience
• Strong synoptic and mesoscale analysis skills
• Deep understanding of atmospheric dynamics and thermodynamics
• Ability to write precise, well-organized technical explanations

Evaluation Process

• Behavioral Interview: Focused on forecast reasoning and decision-making
• Technical Assessment: Short exercise involving 500 mb chart interpretation
