Mercor is seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Music Expert to author, review, and annotate technical tasks used to evaluate AI model performance on music and musicology problems. This is a flexible, part-time remote role ideal for experienced musicians, educators, or researchers looking to contribute to cutting-edge AI development.
What You'll Do
- Produce original problem sets grounded in musical scores, harmonic analyses, and spectrograms
- Write clear, accurate reference solutions for music and musicology challenges
- Apply structured quality checks to ensure task accuracy and consistency
- Evaluate and annotate AI-generated outputs related to music theory, history, and performance
Who We're Looking For
- Education: DMA or PhD in Music/Musicology; or MM with 3+ years of teaching, performance, or research experience; or BM/BA in Music with 5+ years of teaching, performance, or composition experience
- Working fluency in at least two of the following: music theory, history/musicology, performance practice, composition, or ethnomusicology
- Comfortable reading and interpreting scores, harmonic analyses, and spectrograms
- Strong technical writing skills with the ability to articulate reasoning clearly and step-by-step
Compensation & Commitment
- Starting rate: $67/hr, with opportunities for promotion based on task quality and throughput
- Approximately 20 hours per week with a flexible schedule
- Fully remote and hourly
