Mercor is seeking a skilled Oromo Music Expert to support a cutting-edge generative music AI lab. This is a unique opportunity to apply your musical expertise and Oromo language fluency in shaping the future of AI-driven music technology.

About the Role

You will work on music transcription, analysis, and evaluation tasks tailored to Oromo-language music. The core challenge involves transcribing melodies by ear with accurate pitch and rhythm, while also identifying key, tempo, and time signature. Handling sung lyrics in Oromo — including varied accents and less-than-perfect vocal delivery — is a critical part of the work.

Requirements

• Formal musical training or professional experience (music degree, or several years as a musician, composer, transcriber, audio engineer, or music teacher)
• Strong ear for pitch, rhythm, key, tempo, and time signature
• High fluency in Oromo, with the ability to accurately interpret sung lyrics
• Reliable, detail-oriented, and self-motivated working style

Engagement Details

• Commitment: 2–5 hours per week (pilot phase)
