Patent & Compliance Law Attorney at Mercor

Patent & Compliance Attorney | $100–150/hr | Worldwide Remote

Mercor is partnering with a leading AI research lab to engage experienced patent and compliance attorneys for a flexible, project-based role focused on training and evaluating next-generation AI systems. You'll apply your real-world legal expertise to shape how AI understands and reasons through complex legal scenarios.

Key Responsibilities

• Author realistic tasks and scenarios drawn from patent prosecution, claim construction, IPR/invalidity analysis, FTO opinions, and regulatory compliance workflows (AML/BSA, OFAC, FCPA, HIPAA, FDA, GDPR/CCPA, export controls)
• Review and grade AI-generated legal responses for accuracy, sound reasoning, and adherence to professional standards
• Produce detailed "golden answer" model responses with thorough rationale to support model training
• Identify ambiguity, legal risk, and edge cases as a practicing attorney would

Ideal Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional experience in patent law and/or regulatory compliance (law firm, in-house, regulator, or agency)
• J.D., LL.B., or LL.M. from a recognized law school; graduates of leading US, UK, or Canadian institutions preferred
• Active or inactive bar admission in a US, UK, or Canadian jurisdiction; USPTO, CIPO, or UKIPO registration in good standing
• Patent track: Registered patent attorney or agent; technical background in engineering, CS, life sciences, or chemistry strongly preferred
• Compliance track: Hands-on experience with AML/BSA, OFAC, FCPA, HIPAA, FDA, GDPR/CCPA, or export controls; CIPP, CFE, or CAMS credentials a plus
• Excellent written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex legal reasoning clearly and concisely
