Physics Expert (AMO / Optical Properties of Materials) | $80–160/hr | Worldwide Remote

MICRO1 is seeking a highly specialized Physics Expert with deep expertise in atomic, molecular, and optical (AMO) physics and the optical properties of materials. This is a contractor role supporting advanced scientific research, ideal for a researcher or practitioner with hands-on experience in quantum atomic structure and polarizability calculations.

Key Responsibilities

• Apply ab initio configuration interaction methods to compute and analyze polarizability in atomic and molecular systems.
• Perform atomic-structure calculations for isotopes including Yb-171 and Yb-174.
• Identify and differentiate between sigma and pi transitions in optical spectra.
• Contribute expert-level insight to ongoing scientific research within the AMO physics domain.
• Collaborate with research teams to validate computational models and interpret results.

Required Skills & Expertise

• Strong foundational knowledge in Physics, particularly AMO physics.
• Proficiency in ab initio configuration interaction techniques for polarizability.
• Experience with ytterbium isotope atomic-structure calculations (Yb-171, Yb-174).
• Ability to accurately identify sigma vs. pi optical transitions.
• Prior research or industry experience in optical properties of materials is highly preferred.
