Physics Labeling Expert at Mercor

Mercor is seeking PhD holders, doctoral candidates, and outstanding Master's graduates in physics and related disciplines to join a high-impact AI research initiative in partnership with a leading artificial intelligence lab. This part-time role offers 20 hours per week with flexible, asynchronous work.
Key Domains
We welcome applicants with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Fundamental & Theoretical Physics: Theoretical Mechanics, Theoretical Optics, Thermodynamics, Statistical Mechanics, Fluid Physics
- Modern & Applied Physics: Electromagnetism and Photonics, Optics and Acoustics, Atomic and Molecular Physics, Solid State Physics, Semiconductor Physics, Biophysics
- Space & Cosmological Sciences: Astrophysics and Cosmology
- Engineering Disciplines & Control Systems: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Control Theory and Control Engineering
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate scientific correctness, conceptual rigor, and depth of LLM-generated responses across physics and engineering topics
- Review outputs involving mathematical modeling, experimental methods, and theoretical frameworks in physics
- Identify factual errors, reasoning flaws, and conceptual misunderstandings in model outputs
- Benchmark model performance on advanced physics and applied engineering problems
- Work independently and asynchronously using proprietary evaluation tools
Requirements
- PhD (or PhD candidate) in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field
- Strong command of graduate-level physics and mathematical reasoning
- Excellent written communication and analytical abilities
- Ability to work independently in a remote, asynchronous setting
Compensation & Benefits
- Contractor position via Mercor
- $20–$30/hour, depending on expertise and domain depth
