Mercor is seeking graduated Physics PhDs to contribute their subject matter expertise to a cutting-edge AI research project. In this role, you will help develop high-quality training data for state-of-the-art large language models by crafting rigorous, challenging problems within your area of specialization.

Eligible Specializations

• Statistical Mechanics, Condensed Matter & AMO Physics
• Advanced Quantum, Electrodynamics & Classical Mechanics
• String Theory, QFT, Particle Physics & Nuclear Physics
• General Relativity, Astrophysics & Cosmology

What You'll Do

• Apply deep physics expertise to create complex, domain-specific problems
• Contribute 4–6 tasks per week, each requiring several hours of focused work
• Follow detailed instructions to produce high-quality AI training data

Who You Are

• Hold a PhD in Physics from a US, UK, Canadian, or Western European institution
• Possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English
• Demonstrate strong attention to detail and the ability to follow complex instructions

Role Details

• Rate: $85/hr
• Start Date: February (rolling applications accepted)
• Commitment: Ongoing, part-time contractor engagement
• Application: Short AI interview and form (~20–40 minutes)
