What the work involves

Turing, an AI company that works with leading AI labs on large language model capabilities, is hiring physics experts to help fine-tune LLMs (like ChatGPT). You will solve advanced high school and Engineering Entrance Exam / Engineering College level physics problems, write detailed explanations, and work with multi-modal data that combines text, diagrams, graphs and simulations. Examples of the work:

• Analyze the motion of a pendulum with textual explanations, supporting diagrams and a simulation.
• Solve electromagnetism problems with visual representations of electric fields and circuits.
• Tackle challenging mechanics, thermodynamics, optics and modern physics questions typical of Engineering Entrance Exam or Engineering College level.

Requirements

• Strong skills in mechanics, electromagnetism, optics, thermodynamics and modern physics at high school / college level.
• Ability to approach complex problems systematically and creatively.
• Ability to break down solutions into clear, understandable steps, supported by visual aids and simulations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Desktop/laptop with reliable internet and the software needed for computations, visual content creation, simulations and online collaboration.

Preferred qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Physics, Engineering or a related field; candidates with exceptional physics skills but no formal degree are also considered.
• Familiarity with standardized test formats at Engineering Entrance Exam or Engineering College level.
• Knowledge of tools such as MATLAB, LaTeX, Google Colab or simulation software is a plus.

Pay and schedule

• Contractor / freelance assignment for 3 months, with potential for extension based on performance and project needs.
• At least 8 hours per day and a minimum of 40 hours per week, including 4 hours of overlap with PST.
• Different engagement models depending on your availability; no medical or paid leave.
• Fully remote, working on AI projects with leading LLM companies.

Location

Remote. Open to applicants based in India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt, Ghana, Bangladesh, Turkey or Mexico.

Hiring process

• Shortlisting based on qualifications and relevant work experience.
• Shortlisted candidates receive an automated analytical challenge and a writing assessment (approximately 90 minutes).
• Candidates are contacted based on scores to discuss pre-onboarding requirements.
