Pod Lead – Civil/Structural Engineering at Turing
posted 3 hours agoCivil/Structural Engineering Pod Lead | Pay not stated | Remote (contract, ~4 weeks)
Turing, an AI company, is hiring an experienced Civil or Structural Engineering expert to lead a pod of 5–10 trainers building realistic, terminal-based technical tasks for Terminal Bench Science. You will review every task your trainers produce for engineering correctness, reproducibility, and grader reliability, and coach trainers to deliver high-quality work.
What you'll do
- Review engineering tasks end to end: problem statements, structural and geotechnical models, load cases, simulation data, computational environments, reference solutions, and automated tests.
- Validate tasks in areas such as structural analysis, FEA, earthquake and wind engineering, structural dynamics, geotechnical modeling, hydraulics, hydrology, transportation, and infrastructure systems.
- Ensure tasks require genuine multi-step engineering reasoning and reflect realistic workflows.
- Verify engineering accuracy across units, equilibrium, boundary conditions, load combinations, design codes, numerical stability, convergence, and safety factors.
- Validate computational models, solvers, dependencies, and simulation results for reproducibility and technical correctness.
- Review automated graders evaluating outputs like forces, deflections, drifts, settlements, factors of safety, and flow rates.
- Identify technical errors, unrealistic assumptions, incorrect tolerances, and ways to bypass engineering analysis.
- Give clear, actionable feedback and track revisions through completion.
- Mentor trainers, allocate work, monitor quality and productivity, and resolve technical blockers.
Requirements
- Ph.D., postdoctoral experience, or equivalent advanced technical experience in Civil, Structural, or Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Strong programming experience in Python, C/C++, Julia, Fortran, or MATLAB/Octave, with Linux proficiency.
- Hands-on expertise in at least one of: structural analysis, FEA, earthquake engineering, geotechnical modeling, or hydraulic/hydrological modeling.
- Knowledge of engineering design standards such as ASCE 7, ACI, AISC, Eurocodes, or IS codes.
- Experience reviewing complex technical work, simulations, research outputs, or computational models.
- Experience mentoring, reviewing, or leading small technical teams, plus strong written communication skills.
Nice to have
- Experience with tools like OpenSees/OpenSeesPy, Code_Aster, CalculiX, FEniCS, Gmsh, PyNite, EPANET, SWMM, HEC-RAS, MODFLOW, SUMU, QGIS, or GDAL.
- Familiarity with SAP2000, ETABS, Abaqus, PLAXIS, or STAAD.Pro; nonlinear time-history analysis; performance-based design; Docker, Git, CI/CD, and automated testing.
- Professional licensure (PE, SE, CEng) or industry experience on buildings, bridges, transportation, water systems, or major infrastructure.
Schedule and contract terms
- At least 4 hours per day, minimum 40 hours per week, with 4 hours of overlap with Pacific time (PST).
- Contractor assignment (no medical/paid leave). Contract duration: 4 weeks, with an expected start date next week.
- Pay rate not stated in the source listing.
You can work from anywhere as long as your hours overlap with the required PST window.
